Join us at the City Center for Havana's very own Smithsonian Exhibit! This is something you won't want to miss - historic Havana memorabilia will be on display as well […]
The Public Works Department has the responsibility for the City’s infrastructure. There are three divisions within the Department. The Waste Water Treatment facility oversees the sewer plant and collection system, the Water Treatment Plant treats drinking water, and the Street Department addresses maintenance of the City streets, storm sewers and water distribution systems.
The City of Havana provides weekly household waste collection to most single-family residential dwelling units. Monthly fees for household waste collection/disposal services are included in the monthly water bill. Current rate as of 2023 is $12 per month.
You must provide your own garbage can. These can be purchased at almost any hardware store. We ask that you not exceed a 33 gallon capacity sized can– Avoid purchasing any giant cans, as any can that is commercial size or larger than a standard can could be denied for pickup.
There is a weight limit of 50 lbs. per can or bag– any can or bag that weighs more than that will be denied for pickup.
All cat litter must be bagged and not loose in the can, any cans containing unbagged cat litter will be denied for pickup.
You are entitled to six garbage cans or six garbage bags per pick-up. Any bags in excess of the six allowed must have a $1.00 sticker purchased at City Hall and placed on the bags PRIOR to pickup for each additional bag.
For larger items such as furniture, carpet, mattresses, and box springs, a $5.00 sticker can be purchased at City Hall and placed on the item PRIOR to pick up. If there is no sticker, then your pickup will be denied. NOTE: ALL carpet MUST be cut into 3 ft. sections and rolled into a bundle and all flooring (i.e. linoleum) must be put into bags. Failure to follow this procedure will result in denial of pickup.
All garbage must be placed curbside by 6:00 a.m. June – September and 7:00 a.m. October – May. The garbage route days are illustrated in the map below with this clarification:
2023 Yard Waste and Compost pickup will begin on Thursday, April 6th.
Yard Waste is picked up by the City Garbage Department from April thru November on the FIRST and THIRD Thursdays. All yard waste must either be bagged in PAPER YARD WASTE BAGS or placed in trash cans (no larger than 40 gallons), OR bundled and tied with twine (no longer than four feet in length or three feet in diameter). Loose or unbundled yard waste will not be collected.
Recycling is picked up by the City Garbage Department on the FOURTH Thursday of each month. You must have a blue container (which can be purchased anywhere) to signal the driver that there is recycling to pick up. You may have more recycling than what the container will hold placed in an orderly manner beside the recycling tub.
